Chances are, your passion for video editing centers around story telling. And, chances are that you find yourself doing less actual story telling than you’d like.

One day, I realized that I was working at a company with “Editing” in the company name, that my business card said “Editor”, but I was spending much less than half my time at work actually editing.

In looking at what I was actually doing as a professional editor, I realized I had picked up a lot of tricks for getting done with the menial tasks. These tricks helped me get back to the edit, and get back to story telling.

I’ve started to share these tips, tricks, and hacks with others, at my new site, Back to the Edit. Check it out, pass it around, and let me know if there are any parts of your job as an editor that you’d like to see sped up.

New Demo Reel Up

I have posted my Summer 2011 Reel, with all kinds of fun graphics and shots that show a bit of my aesthetic side.

I am happy to be back on the market as a freelancer, and while I’ve stayed busy so far, I realized a new reel would keep the work flowing in. I’d love to hear what you think!

Sorting through the massive amounts of sites online can be intimidating, especially when trying to find good info on editing and video stuff. So I’ve come up with a listing of the sites that I subscribe to, or at least frequent. They’re mostly Final Cut related, but there is a good variety. Check it out, and if you’re a FCP user, definitely subscribe to Larry Jordan’s FCS Tip of the Day.

I decided to make some changes to better achieve what I’m trying to do with my Web site. I’m trying to make my page a tad more professional, and so have changed the front page. I’m not completely done with the change, so stay tune for some fine tunings.

Up and running

Well, I’m happy to say that my new computer is up and running, a complete editing machine. I installed Final Cut Pro, and it seems like everything is working fine.

This means that I’ll be able to do freelancing a lot easier now. So if you have any video needs, let me know. Check out my Services page to see what I can do for you!

MAMA, Gabriel, and more videos up

I just revamped the video section of the site to include about twice as many videos. I’ve dug up old goodies like Gabriel, and others are some of the more recent projects I hadn’t put on the site yet, like the El Proyecto MAMA promotional video from last summer, and the CAC videos from late August.

I also linked to a bunch of the work I’ve done for Goshen’s TV production unit, including some more games. Check out the new video portfolio page to see them all!

Weird

This is weird. I have a post that is for some reason giving me a lot of trouble. I tried posting it earlier today, and it took the site down for a few hours while I tried to troubleshoot. I’ve isolated it to a post, but now can’t figure out what it is within that post. I think I may be tripping some kind of filter for words that without context could seem questionable, but I can’t figure it out. I’ll get that post up soon, I promise.

I realized that I’m not really a director, and no one calls me Face anymore, so the site name was just bad. I’m not planning on changing my name, and figured JamesNWeber.com would be a nice name that wouldn’t change.If you have subscribed via email or RSS, you shouldn’t notice a change.
